Dr. Maria Markou is a licenced Clinical Psychologist (Reg. #742). Dr. Markou has graduated from the University of Cyprus with a PhD in Clinical Psychology. She holds a First-Class Honours Degree in Psychology (BSc) from City University London and a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Studies (MSc) from the University College London (UCL), United Kingdom.
During her postgraduate degree she has worked as a trainee psychologist at the Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. As part of her clinical practicum for her PhD, she has worked as a trainee clinical psychologist at The Office for Psychological Support at the University of Cyprus, at the Counselling Centre “Ithaki” and at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre in Nicosia.
Her clinical experience covers a range of age groups and psychological difficulties including anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, eating disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders and providing support for individuals facing chronic illnesses such as cancer.
In 2019, she spent six months in the United States where she had the opportunity to work and gain clinical experience at the Behavioral Health Partial Program (BHPP) and the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Institute (OCDI) at McLean Hospital of Harvard University in Boston, United States. Dr. Markou is currently working as a Clinical Psychologist at the Resilient Lives centre for Social and Emotional Health and is the coordinator of the special department of OCD and Anxiety disorders.
