Dr. Anastasios Petrou is a Clinical Psychologist currently practicing under supervision at the Resilient Lives Centre. He recently completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology with Distinction at the University of Cyprus.
He obtained a BSc in Psychology from the University of Cyprus, graduating with “Excellent with Distinction” and receiving multiple academic awards, including the First Prize awarded by the President of the Republic of Cyprus for the highest academic achievement across all faculties, the Award for Excellence in the Social Sciences, and the Department of Psychology Award. Part of his undergraduate studies was completed at Panteion University in Athens.
He later earned an MSc in Child and Adolescent Mental Health with Distinction from King’s College London (KCL), supported by competitive academic scholarships. Additionally, he specialized in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) through a postgraduate training program at the University of Athens Medical School in collaboration with the Hellenic Society of ADHD Study.
Dr. Petrou has extensive clinical experience and training across Cyprus, Greece, and London, with over 4,500 hours of supervised clinical training in mental health services. He has worked with individuals and groups of all ages across a range of therapeutic settings, addressing neurodevelopmental difficulties, mood disorders, anxiety, addictions, trauma, personality disorders, and interpersonal challenges.
His experience includes clinical roles in community mental health in Thessaloniki, drug addiction units at the Psychiatric Hospital of Attica “Dafni” in Athens, and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) within the NHS London.
As part of his PhD clinical training, he completed placements across multiple settings, including the Mental Health Centre of the University of Cyprus, the Prevention and Counseling Station “ITHAKI” (KENTHEA), the Resilient Lives Centre, the Adolescent Day Centre “I Panton Hara”, residential shelters for children and adolescents, and the Psychiatric Hospital of Athalassa.
In parallel, he has contributed to university research projects and collaborated with UNICEF and Interpeace on international projects promoting life skills and resilience. His research interests focus on neurodevelopmental disorders and interventions aimed at preventing burnout and enhancing resilience among workers in high-demand work environments.
His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. Passionate about teaching, he also serves as a Special Teaching Scientist at the University of Cyprus.
Dr. Petrou provides individual and group therapy for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as psychological assessment and psychoeducational programs, using evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). His training also includes Systemic Family Therapy and Play Therapy.
He adopts an individualized approach, tailoring interventions to each person’s needs and context, with a special clinical interest in supporting families and parents in fostering children’s well-being and resilience. He emphasizes a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship, helping individuals and families navigate challenges and promote meaningful psychological change.
