Dr. Christiana Theodorou is a licensed Clinical Psychologist (License no. 679) and part of the interdisciplinary team at Resilient Lives Centre for Social and Emotional Health. She is also a part-time lecturer at the University of Cyprus and the University of Nicosia. Additionally, she is a special postdoctoral researcher in the area of addictions and in the development of a prevention program for the enhancement of emotion regulation skills.
She completed her bachelor studies at the University of Cyprus, earned a Master of Science in Psychological Research Methods at Lancaster University in UK and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cyprus. Her research interests are mainly in the field of clinical psychology and specifically on psychopathology, emotions, emotion-regulation, prevention programs, psychophysiology and substance abuse.
Christiana has broad practical experience as during her clinical practice she worked in the Counselling Services of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan Cyprus), in an adult Day Care Centre specializing in Alzheimer’s disease, in “Ithaki” counselling services for children and their families, in “Agia Skepi” drug rehabilitation psychotherapeutic center and also delivered group psychoeducational sessions in numerous elementary schools and high schools. She was trained in and provided a wide range of psychological services, including cognitive, emotional and behavioural assessment as well as individual and group therapy to clients of all ages addressing a wide range of mental health conditions that range from mild to severe (e.g. emotional and anxiety problems, substance abuse, aggressive and conduct problems, borderline personality disorders, eating disorders, couple problems, divorce, and others).
In addition to her extensive practical experience, Christiana is participating in educational training and conferences both in Cyprus and abroad as part of continued professional development to keep expanding her professional skills. Some of the training events she attended are systemic therapy for children and adolescents by the Systemic Institute of Cyprus, training course for trauma-focused cognitive-behavioural therapy by Medical University of South Carolina’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences, therapist training on cognitive-behavioural therapy for anxiety disorders by the Centre for Telepsychology in USA and various sessions regarding borderline personality disorder by the Mclean Hospital, USA.
Dr. Christiana Theodorou is proficient in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy and Systemic Therapy and provides individual and group therapy to all ages, as well as family, couple and play therapy.
