Department of Eating Disorders

The aim of the program is to empower and support people who experience serious physical and psychological difficulties that are related to eating disorders. Our intensive program combines an effective treatment model to aid recovery from eating disorders.

Eating disorders are known as “disconnection disease.” This is because people suffering from anorexia, bulimia or binge eating tend to isolate themselves from the life they once enjoyed. The purpose of our program is to minimise the individual’s disconnection by building relationships with others facing similar struggles. In therapy, the person is asked to face these challenges together with others and in cooperation with their support system.

The program targets adolescents aged 12 -17 years and young adults who present with symptoms of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder.

Personalized Treatment Plans

An individualised eating disorder program will be created to the specific needs, lifestyle and nutritional challenges of each individual and his/her family.

Specialized Team of Treatment Specialists

The treatment team consists of registered clinical psychologists, clinical dietitians, family therapists and child psychiatrists. Our program is based on optimal therapeutic interventions in the field of eating disorders applied worldwide.

Department of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Other Related Disorders

The Centre for OCD and Related Disorders specialises in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and common co-occurring disorders such as generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, specific phobias and panic disorder. Services offered at the Centre for OCD and Related Disorders include diagnostic assessment, individualised treatment plan and exposure and response prevention therapy assisted by the clinicians in our team. The treatment approach we use is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, which is the gold-standard treatment for OCD. Our aim is to help individuals that suffer from OCD and related disorders improve their quality of life and build skills that will help prevent relapse in the future.

 Disorders that we treat

The program is ideal for adolescents and adults who present with symptoms of:

  •       Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Illness anxiety disorder, health anxiety, hypochondriasis
  • Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
  • Social anxiety
  • Specific phobias
  • Panic disorder

Treatment Approach

Phase one: Diagnostic assessment

We use several different methods to assess symptoms of the disorders mentioned above, including diagnostic interviews, clinician administered inventories, self-report measures and parent-report measures.

Phase two: Treatment

In our program we use evidence-based treatments to help individuals manage their symptoms. Particularly, we use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is ideal for individuals who experience anxiety and related disorders. It is based on the concept that our thoughts, feelings, behaviours and physical sensations are all connected, and that the way we think and behave affects how we feel. The therapist helps individuals identify and change negative thinking and behaviour patterns that are unhelpful and replace them with more accurate and helpful thoughts and behaviours.

Exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP) is the gold-standard treatment for OCD. Exposure and response prevention therapy encourages individuals to gradually expose themselves to situations designed to trigger their obsessions and at the same time create the opportunity to practice the prevention of compulsive responses in a safe environment. The ultimate goal is to gradually reduce the anxiety that feeds obsessions and compulsions.
